Autumn brings coziness. We are blessed with warm fires, golden leaves, plaid blankets, woolen sweaters…and winter. I mostly love it except I’m not a fan of winter. Thus, when the seasonal decor starts showing up in August I start to panic. To me bright orange pumpkins, faux orange leaves, black cats, jack-o-lanterns just mean the long, cold winter is ahead. I love my work as a stylist but how do I get around the “orangeness” that shows up in so many spaces this time of year? I use a ton of white spray paint!
Choosing organic elements like rattan, wood and greenery accomplish a fall aura without overdoing the expected orange, yellow and brown tones. Spray painting gourds white is subtle and fresh. I love displaying deer antlers all year long; but they especially look great in autumn and winter. Wrapping them with faux evergreen or mixing them with pine cones is an easy transition to the Christmas season.
